Each of us is baptized into the priesthood of all believers, and there are many key roles that lay persons play in our worship and service projects. You can see a few of the possibilities below. Whether you like to serve in front of or behind the scenes, whether you like to be part of a team or work quietly alone, whether in the church or outside on the campus or out in the community, there are many ways you can be involved. Lectors read at worship from the assigned Bible passages and offer the prayers of the people. This lay ministry is active during all Saturday and Sunday services.
Greeters and Ushers hand out bulletins, welcome and assist visitors, and help collect the offering. They also count those present at the service and pick up materials left in the pews at the conclusion of the service. These lay ministers are involved in Saturday and Sunday services.
The Altar Guild is a volunteer group of the parish whose ministry is to care for the altar, vestments, vessels, and altar linens. This is a special ministry with the responsibility and privilege of tending to the beauty, peace, and tranquility of worship. Contact the Rev. The Funeral Guild provides hospitality and care at church receptions for family and friends following funerals, helping setup, serve, and clean up light refreshments.
Sound techs work the microphone system throughout the worship service. Using the provided iPad, they control what microphones are on and off with a user-friendly app. Sound technicians are involved in the 10:30 AM Sunday morning service, and at special services throughout the year. Gift bearers bring the bread and wine to the altar during the Eucharist. This lay ministry serves at the 10:30 AM service on Sunday morning.
Chalice Bearers assist the clergy in serving communion to those present. These lay people are trained to distribute wine to those present during the Holy Eucharist. Chalice Bearers participate in all Saturday and Sunday services.
In the worship processions, the Crucifer carries the Cross and the Acolytes carry the candles. Acolytes and crucifers also assist in other parts of worship. Children and youth are invited to join this lay ministry that serves at the 10:30 service, Sunday morning.
Fellowship bakers make or buy treats for our fellowship time following the Sunday morning 10:30 worship. This time has become vital to our parish and parishioners and its popularity continues to grow.
Cookies & Conversation hosts set up the treats before worship and clean up after fellowship time. This popular gathering gives people a chance to chat get to know one another better and provides an excellent opportunity welcome visitors. Click HERE for the SignupGenius Schedule
Community picnic hosts help coordinate one of our warm-weather Saturday evening picnics. These events are a great way to spend time with fellow parishioners, while sharing a meal and enjoying the bounty of the Community Garden.
The Gardeners help maintain our various pathways and gardens during the spring, summer, and fall. With over 13 acres of land, there is a lot to maintain, and help is always welcome to keep All Saints looking beautiful and help provide spaces for prayer, meditation, and recreation.
The Pantry on Blondo Hosts help restock the pantry from our supplies, sort new clothes, and assist guests who come on Monday and Wednesday mornings as they select food and clothing. We often serve 20 or more guests in the span of two hours! Donations can be made during normal church office hours.
Mobile Food Pantry Hosts and Volunteers help set up and tear down for our monthly (last Saturday of the month) mobile food pantry events, and welcome and assist guests as they select food. The Mobile Food Pantry regularly serves about 150 families with food provided by Food Bank for the Heartland. All ages are welcome to volunteer at Mobile Food Pantry events.
Our prayer warriors receive prayer request notifications and then include the requested intercessions in their own daily devotions. This is a group of people who are committed to lifting up All Saints members and beyond in prayer, taking its name from Paul's exhortation in Ephesians 6: “Therefore put on the full armor of God…Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace...With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Submit prayer requests HERE.
